Was
God Cold?
Sometimes I wonder...
Was God cold in that stable in Bethlehem?
I can relate to being cold because, as a young child,
sometimes I was cold.
Sometimes in the dead of winter when we ran out of heating
oil and when my dad's back was hurting too bad to chop wood, there was no heat in our
home.
My dad went to work and my older brother went to school
and my mom and I were cold.
I stayed in bed all day to keep warm. And even though you
get pretty warm in bed with a blanket under you and a blanket over you and oodles of
quilts piled on, it can get pretty boring pretty quick.
I dozed off a lot and fantasized about living in the city
where houses had floor furnaces and everybody stayed toasty warm.
As a child, my great ambition was to some day become
wealthy and have a home with running water and a floor furnace.
God blessed me. As an adult, I have never been cold.
I wonder if God was cold in that barn. Barns are terribly
cold.
God must have seriously wanted to relate to poor folks to
come to earth as a baby in a barn.
What an awesome God!
