Today is Flag Day, the
day to fly your flag. I usually fly my white flag.
Flag
Day
is NOT the day to burn your flag. That's
Doofus Day.
Today
is Flag Day in the U.S., the day Americans
everywhere pause to pay tribute to Lee Greenwood's
shirt.
Today
is Flag Day in the U.S., a day to fly your flag. At
7:00 p.m. (EDT) everyone will pause and recite the Pledge of
Allegiance. My throat is getting lumpy already.
Flag Day
marks that day in 1777 when the Continental Congress adopted the Stars & Stripes as the U.S.
flag. Sounds like another great reason to have a sale.
It was
Betsy Ross who designed the first U.S. flag, which
she pieced together using discontinued red, white,
and blue underwear that didn't sell at her boutique
Betsy's Secret.
Betsy always wore red, white, and blue
underwear. Her close friends called her Wonder
Woman.
Now today's exciting
Flag Day trivia question:
Why
did Betsy Ross make the first U.S. flag?
Historians tell us that Betsy Ross's husband John's
brother George's best friend was General George
Washington, who needed something for his troops to
rally around so they would stop rallying around
Martha.
So George asked George to ask John to ask Betsy
to make a flag. And she did. Betsy had always been
good with her hands.
Then she made some really cute little lace
purses for the soldiers to carry their powder in,
but those didn't go over as well.
