He
is Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah, the Lamb of
God.
Throughout the Bible, the Messiah is called "The
Lamb of God."
In Genesis 22, God commands Abraham to offer his
beloved son Isaac as a sacrifice. God is not
endorsing child sacrifice among men -- He is
foretelling His Child sacrifice for men.
When they get up the mountain, Isaac asks his
dad, "Look, the fire and the wood, but where is
the lamb for a burnt offering?" In response,
Abraham prophesied, "God will provide the lamb."
Centuries later. on that very same mountain just
outside of Jerusalem, God offered His only Son,
the Lamb of God, as a sin offering to reconcile
fallen man to his Holy God.
"Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin
of the world!" This was John the Baptist's
declaration in John 1:29 upon seeing Jesus for
the first time.
Charlotte Elliott was born in Clapham, England,
in 1789, the year the French Revolution began. A
carefree cockney, she became popular for her
satirical verse and cartoons.
At age 30 her carefree life ended as she began
suffering from a degenerative disease. For the
next 50 years she was bedridden. She sank into a
deep depression. She lost her sense of humor.
Ministers called, but her sense of guilt only
deepened.
Then a Swiss preacher, Dr Caesar Malan, visited
Charlotte and diagnosed her problem. He told
her, "You are right to feel a sense of sin.
Without it no one comes to the Savior for pardon
and new life. But you must come just as you are,
a sinner, to the Lamb of God that taketh away
the sin of the world."
Charlotte came to the Savior. Just as she was.
Just as I am, without one plea,
But that thy blood was shed for me,
And that thou bidd'st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
"Just as I Am," one of 150 hymns Charlotte wrote
lying in bed, was first published in the second
edition of "The Invalid's Hymnbook."
The Lamb of God
gave her new life and new purpose.
Who is He? He is our Savior and Lord, our mind
healer, our sin cleanser, heart mender, fear
reliever, barrier breaker, our hope, our
confidence, and our friend.
He is the Lamb of God, who adopts us and loves
us just as we are.
