Childen and movies

By Joe Hickman, HaLife.com

Every week Hollywood releases several new films, a lot more than most children need to see.

Yet for most, movies were an entertainment staple of childhood, and today's generation of children is no different.

Children love movies. Children need movies. Just not all movies.

Fortunately, the Internet offers parents more reviews and information about current movies than ever before. It's really quite easy now to choose films children will enjoy and benefit from.

Most "family" movie review sites are hosted by parents who are concerned about family entertainment. They quickly point out films that contain profanity, nudity, sex, violence, and drugs or alcohol use.
Since it's impossible to judge a movie by its trailer or poster, or a video by its cover, why not take advantage of the efforts others are expending to help you protect your children.

Below are only three of many Web sites that help parents choose good films for children:

Family Style Film Guide at www.familystyle.com/ is a site with loads of current movie reviews, including reviews for parents. They also review videos and include a search feature.

Parent Previews at movies.go.com/parentpreviews/ reviews current movies and videos and also grades each film. The site also has a parent review search capability.

Decent Films at www.decentfilms.com offers an overall film recommendation, a rating for artistry and entertainment, an age appropriate guide, and a moral and spiritual values rating. You can search by title, genre, keyword or rating.

Children should not see many of today's movies and videos. Some are little more than child mind molesters.

But with a few clicks of the mouse, it's easier than ever to make sure your children see the very best.

Hopefully, that's what every parent wants.
