Specializing in beginners and family groups,
Northstar resort has the only stable on Lake Tahoe that
offers specially raised horses that are gentle and
well-suited for even the most timid and inexperienced
riders. Located six miles from the North Shore,
Northwood's trails meander through the breathtaking
meadows and rolling hills of the scenic high Sierra.
Riders must be at least 7 years old for a trail ride,
although children under 7 can take pony rides with adult
supervision.Northstar's weekly youth horse camps are
geared toward riders ages 8-17, including two hours of
riding each day and classes about horse behavior,
grooming, how to tack up safely, types of tack, and proper
feeding. Rates for the horse camp are $450, except during
the weeks of June 19, June 26 and Aug. 28, when rates are
$350.
Guests interested in single rides can go on a one-hour
guided group ride for $35 (a special rate of $20 an hour
from June 10-23); a two-hour guided group ride for $60; or
a one-person, one-hour private guided ride for $60, extra

TEE TIME WITH THE KIDS
Marriott Golf has started a new program that allows
adults and kids to play and learn the game of golf
together. The Kids Golf-4-Free program is available at 36
Marriott resorts, encompassing 52 courses. Children up to
15 years old golf for free when accompanied by a
full-paying adult after 3:00 p.m. Marriott Golf is also
offering free lessons anytime to kids up to 15 years old
when accompanied by an adult who is taking a fully paid
lesson from a Marriott Golf instructor.
With golf resorts like Camelback Golf Club (Scottsdale,
Ariz.), Grande Pines Golf Club (Orlando, Fla.) and Forest
of Arden Country Club (Meriden, England) among the 52 golf
courses participating, junior golfers can experience some
of the finest golf courses in the world.
