Job interview: Promote thyself
When a new or
different job will be available within the company, you may want to apply for it. That
probably means an interview.
Before the big day,
it's the right time to focus on the subtle art of self-promotion. Bosses may not be aware
of how valuable you are. You have to let them know what you're doing, what skills you are
developing, and what goals you are achieving, says Peggy Klaus, author of Brag!: the Art
of Tooting Your Own Horn Without Blowing It (Warner Books).
The more specific
details you can give, the clearer your achievements will be to people who don't know you
well. Practice talking about your accomplishments by weaving them into a story.
